It flourishes once in a lifetime, after about 10 years, and the violet or red flowers appaear at one side of the stem.
It requires a deep watering in spring or summer. Don't water the rest of the year.
In borders of fields, as fence., to feed the livestock; to elaborate drinks (pulque, mezcal and tequila) it has been used in the production of textile fibers. The flowers are eatable
Sun. It needs a haight tempereature in summer o attain a normal growing ( about 40 ªC)
 
From seeds in spring. Repot once a year.
Sandy well drained soil, rich in humus.
