Scientific noun: Bryonia cretica ssp.dioica Jacq,

 
Family : Gourd Family - Cucurbitaceae
 
Habitat: In hedges, very rich organic soils, by water streams of temperate climates.
 
Poisons: Alkaloids ( briocinina ), saponin, tannin, glycosides (bryonin y bryonidin)
 
Active parts: The wole plant, either the root, fruits or the juice produced by squeezing it.
 
Usage : It has been used as a drastic purgative but, considering it is very dangerous, it is not advisable for homemade treatments. It is been studied to apply some of his components as inhibitors or cancerous tumors, once the toxic properties related with them could be removed.
 
Toxicity: Extreme.

Symptoms:: By applying the plant juice on the skin it produces irritation with bladders. In internal use ( ingestion of the berries and plant juice) it violently harms the digestive system, producing, in minor doses, stomachache, diarrhea, vomiting, tachycardia..etc. In greater doses, it carries the patient' s death because of respìratory breakdown. It is thought that an adult may die if he eats 40 or 50 berries. Children only need about 15. Minor quantities may be lethal in some cases.
It has been described animal intoxications after eating its roots, leaves or fruits..

Medical treatment: Make the patient vomit without using vomitives, hearth stimulants, liquid administration, artificial respiration and sedatives.
