Dehydration natural treatment
DEHYDRATION NATURAL REMEDIES
Characteristics of dehydration
Dehydration is a pathological condition of the body caused by a low level of fluids in the body. This state has negative consequences in many parts of the body such as blood circulation, mental status, urine, etc.
Dehydration can occur more easily in infants and children because their bodies contain a higher proportion of water. It is also more feasible in the elderly who have less capacity to retain water and less ability to feel the sensation of thirst.
Besides, because of summer heat, both, children and elderly, are more likely to develop diarrhea, which can reduce much of their body fluids. In case of diarrhea, you must provide plenty of water to avoid dehydration.
Symptoms of dehydration
Among the most characteristic symptoms, we have to mention the following:
- Sunken eyes
- Sticking mouth or little saliva production.
- In infants, sunken fontanels.
- Scarce urine and, in severe cases, very dark yellow urine.
- Rapid heartbeat
- Sometimes, when it is most severe, seizures, dizziness, loss of consciousness or shock.
Causes of dehydration
The main causes that can lead to dehydration include:
- Excessive heat combined with a lack of fluid intake.
- Excessive urination caused by diseases such as diabetes.
- Ingestion of chemical or natural diuretics.
- In children, sometimes crying is produced without tears.
Treatment of dehydration
In the event of a problem of non-mild dehydration (dizziness, impaired consciousness, lack of tears in children, scarce and very dark urine, etc) it is best to call the emergency service. This is especially needed in case of children.
Monitored oral rehydration therapy or intravenous therapy can be required in more serious cases. (Water and minerals are provided orally or intravenously till the levels are restored)
For milder cases, fluids may be given slowly and in small quantities. For infants a teaspoonful should be used, instead of drinking directly from a bottle.
Natural medicine for hydration implies the use of a number of plants used to combat the cause that lead to dehydration
