What is “Agua del Carmen” ?

“Agua del Carmen”, Water of Melissa or Water of Carmen (from Spanish Agua del Carmen) is a remedy made from the year 1611 by the monks of the religious community of Discalced Carmelites.

It has been called antihysteric water because, traditionally, it has been used as a folk remedy for the cure of hysteria.

This is an individual anomaly characterized by violent emotional changes, with exaggerated responses in feelings and also with a corresponding physical reflection in form of stomach problems, palpitations, melancholy, lack of humor, etc.

How is Water of Carmen prepared?

Agua del Carmen is made in the following way:

Ingredients:

  • 1 liter of alcohol of 80 °.
  • ½ liter of water.
  • 20 tablespoons of lemon balm leaves and flowers.
  • 1 tablespoon chopped angelica root
  • 30 gr. lemon rind.
  • 10 gr. cinnamon.
  • 10 gr. coriander seeds.
  • 8 cloves

Preparation:

Mix all ingredients and place the mixture in a glass bottle for three weeks. Filter well and store in a glass jar in a cool, dry place away from light.

Use:

The daily dose to calm your nerves is 5 ml dissolved in a cup of water
