CEREBRAL TROMBOSIS TREATMENT

Characteristics of cerebral thrombosis

Thrombi are blood masses that form inside the walls of the blood vessels or inside the heart. They decrease the diameter of blood vessels difficulting blood flow, which is known as thrombosis.

Thrombosis may cause serious bodily states, as they prevent the cells from the tissues of the affected areas to be properly irrigated. The absence of this contribution can lead to cell death and the destruction of the affected body tissue.

Cerebral thrombosis is produced by one or several thrombi that block a blood vessel in the brain or a blood vessel near it, preventing the tissues of the affected areas of the brain to be properly nourished with oxygen and nutrients.

Within cerebral thrombosis, we should highlight the cavernous sinus thrombosis. It is a very serious type of thrombosis.

Symptoms of cerebral thrombosis

Among the most characteristic symptoms of this disease we will point out the following:

  • Lack of eye movement in any direction with possible loss of vision

  • Headache

  • Hanging eyelids and bulging eyes.

Causes of cerebral thrombosis

The main cause is atherosclerosis of brain arteries themselves or of those from nearby areas such as the carotid arteries, the arteries of the neck or those of the back. Atherosclerosis is responsible for the narrowing of the arteries that can lead to a lack of blood supply.

A very common cause of cerebral thrombosis is artery clogging because of emboli caused by diseases such as heart arrhythmias, (the most important type of arrhythmia causing it is atrial fibrillation)

Those who have a tendency to develop blood clots are more likely to suffer a stroke. (See causes of clots)

How to diagnose and treat a cerebral thrombosis

The diagnosis of cerebral thrombosis is based on a physical examination to detect any possible symptoms. The physician is based mainly on verifying the patient's speech, reflexes, vision, or the state of mental faculties. Auscultation of the heart and a review of blood pressure is generally performed.

In some cases some other tests will be needed to assess the state of the brain or heart, such as angiography of the head (to uncover the blocked arteries); echocardiography (To check the status of the heart); blood tests (to check cholesterol, sugar, blood clotting, etc.)

Cavernous sinus thrombosis is a serious illness that requires immediate treatment with antibiotics. If neglected it can be fatal.

The official treatment of cerebral thrombosis focuses on the use of thrombolytic drugs used to dissolve clots and blood-thinning drugs that prevent new clots from forming.

The natural treatment of cerebral thrombosis is based on the use of a variety of natural resources that can help prevent or treat blood clots.
