Which fruit in the market is the best?

During the acquisition, is usual that we buy those fruits that have better looking, large, smooth skin without any marks on them. Many times this immaculate appearance does not indicate that the fruit in question is better. The lack of marks is often a sign that this fruit has been treated with many pesticides, so that the animals that could have bitten them, died before tasting them.

Sometimes these products are subjected to washing and polishing process to encourage consumers to purchase them. An apple, for example, with small marks on the skin caused by animals, has not lower quality than that one which looks great.

Many times these small marks are showing that the piece of fruit in question has not been treated with pesticides and, therefore, the best fruit for our bodies could be that which is not so attractive to the eye.

When we talk of marks on the skin we do not refer to rot or mold but small marks, such as those produced by birds in certain fruits.

On the other hand, it has to be considered that the fruit not treated with pesticides can produce moulds, some of which are very injurious for our health, especially those that affect dried fruit.

What food to choose?

We will have to be very prudent in the fruit that we bought, refusing that one that has moulds, rottenness. etc. (More information about precaution and dangers of fruit in the listing below)

It would be advisable, whenever it is possible, to buy the fruits directly from the producer. Unfortunately the majority of the fruit nowadays is harvested unripe so that, until it arrives to the consumer, it takes a good time, which allows ripening.

A good fruit must be ripe

You must eat ripe fruit in good condition

Raw fruit does not taste as it should, and, what is worse, its dietetic properties are decreased. For example, beta-carotene – precursory of Vitamin A– needs the ripening in the tree to be able to be developed, part of vitamin C is altered with time, etc.

Should we eat raw unpeeled fruits?

The best way to eat raw fruits is, if possible, raw with all its skin. Many of the vitamins disappear when cooked or when peeled.

Unfortunately, given the large amount of pesticides used in cultivation, it is virtually impossible to eat them without running the risk of ingesting toxins, even when washing them well.

Choose organic farming fruits

For this reason, try eating those fruits that come from organic farming, which are not treated with these products so harmful for the body. Otherwise, it is best to peel all fruits.

How can fruit be eaten?

  • Fruits can be eaten fresh or dried.
  • The fruit can also be eaten whole or as juice.

Juices are very interesting both for its taste when you make the right combinations and for its usefulness. They are very refreshing in summer and are a quick and easy way to ingest all the properties of the fruit throughout the year.

For example, there should be a glass of orange juice on the table at breakfast, but it may be even more interesting a combination of fruit with other vegetables or milk, provided they are compatible.

We must bear in mind that many of the vitamins are oxidized in contact with air, so that fruit juices should be prepared shortly before drinking them and preparations should not be stored for a long time. The following table shows some of the possible combinations:
