Guava, a tree for diabetes

The guava tree is native to tropical America but extended for years throughout the Asian continent. Current consumption is important in countries like India, Taiwan, China and Japan, so it is no wonder that this fruit has entered popular medicine in these regions.

The Indian Ayurveda prescribes a guava leaf tea to treat diabetes. Scientific studies confirm the effectiveness of this remedy to treat diabetes, because guava leaves extract possesses quercetin, a flavonoid with hypoglycemic effect that helps lower blood sugar.

The guava fruit and leaves contain at least 13 substances against diabetes. Among them, its richness in pectin fiber, fructose, flavonols (quercetin), ursolic acid, arjunolic, minerals (magnesium, manganese, zinc) and niacin.

Another scientific study also showed that administering natural guava juice for four weeks helped a 25% reduction in blood sugar in diabetic animals.
