Assam tea is a type of black tea produced in India, in a region of the same name. It is also known as black tea from India, which is the second largest producer of tea.

Assam is a town located in northern India, where tea was spread throughout the country. Monsoon climate is ideal for growing the tea plant (Camellia sinensis), at more than 1,500 m above sea level.

Assam tea, like most black teas, is drunk with milk at breakfast or lunch, as it is a mildly stimulating drink.

This tea has a pronounced flavor and its infusion is dark.

One of the main uses of this tea is in tea blends or mixtures. Assam tea is one of the main ingredients of popular English Breakfast, Irish Breakfast, Brunch or Earl Grey tea.

Sometimes we see it combined with cardamom (Cardamom Assam Tea) and in other part it takes part in Chai Tea.

Assam tea properties

Assam tea is slightly stimulant and tonic. It is said to be mildly stimulating because it contains as much caffeine as coffee, which it is slowly absorbed. Although black tea is one of the types of tea with more caffeine, it provides half caffeine than a cup of coffee.

The caffeine (= theine) that this drink gives us has a gradual effect, because it is absorbed more slowly than caffeine in coffee (more).

Tea is a natural stimulant of the nervous system, metabolism and fat burning. This type of tea is usually taken in the morning with a little milk.

For people with obesity or overweight, it is more advisable than coffee, because it has the beneficial effects of tea catechins and polyphenols. It is also recommended for its stimulant properties for decayed people with mild depression or in situations that require an extra physical or mental effort.

It is a slightly astringent infusion because it contains oxidized polyphenols, theaflavins and thearubigins, substances that provide a strong flavor to black tea and red or orange tinge to its infusion.

In small doses, this tea can be healthy for the stomach as a digestive stimulant or regulator. Taken too frequently or in high doses, black tea can cause palpitations or heartburn.
