Properties of Tieguanyin tea or Tie-Guan-yin tea

(Camellia sinensis)

BENEFITS OF TIE-GUAN-YIN TEA

Characteristics of Tieguanyin tea?

Tieguanyin tea, also called Tie-Kuan-Yin, Tie-Guan-Yin or Iron Goddess, is a type of tea classified into blue or semi-fermented teas, known as Oolong tea.

This type of tea is an intermediate between green tea and black tea, as it has been subjected to the fermentation process like black tea, but for a shorter time.

This tea is from Fujian province in China. Formosa Oolong tea, a very popular Oolong tea, is also produced in Taiwan, . The difference between them is that the Chinese Tie-Kuan-Yin tea is less oxidized and its flavor is mild and sweet, and its antioxidants are better preserved.

Some varieties may indicate "monkey-picked ", which refers to the ancient legend that Buddhist monks trained the chimpanzees to collect tea leaves. Currently this designation means that only quality leaves carefully selected have been used.

Infusion characteristics of Tieguanyin tea

It contains more caffeine than green tea (although not as much as black tea), so it is a proper stimulant to drink in the morning or noon.

The infusion of Tie-Kuan-Yin tea is red or orange, and has floral flavor nuances. It can be taken as a digestive, but it is not recommended for use at night because it contains caffeine.

As with all Chinese teas, it has not to be taken with milk, nor with sugar, nor with lemon.
