Tips for enuresis
HOW TO TREAT ENURESIS
Facing the problem naturally, with patience and understanding
The treatment of enuresis requires an appropriate approach on the part of parents and relatives of the child or adult who has this disorder.
Punishments or threats are not appropriate because this type of behavior only increases tension and makes the problem worse.
Appropriate treatment requires adequate support and patience from parents or older siblings to deal with it gently, helping the person who has it to naturally resolve it without involving any trauma.
One way to prevent the boy or girl from feeling guilty is to let them participate in the tasks of changing bed linen or pajamas. For this, one will provide the person with dry sheets and pajamas that they can change if they realize they have wet the bed.
If the punishment should be avoided, neither it is right to be thankful when the affected person gets up without wetting the bed. Praise containment is another way of giving importance to the issue and the child may feel overwhelmed by it. It is best to act naturally, changing wet sheets or pajamas without giving the slightest importance to it.
Helping to solve the problems of children
Many times, especially in cases of secondary enuresis, children wet the bed because they are emotionally unstable. Any problem in school, family, friends, etc can lead to a state of anxiety or stress which is responsible for the enuresis.
Talking with kids about their problems, trying to understand why they feel bad or seeing if there is anything that worries them may help improve their personal situation and solve or improve the condition.
Helping the child to acquire control habits
It is important for the boy or girl to go to the toilet to urinate before going to bed
The acquirement of habits is very important, as the practice of going to the toilet at set times during the day, although the person concerned does not feel the need. It is also helpful for parents to get used to compel the boy or girl to go to urinate before going to bed.
Also, they should wake infants before parents go to bed for boys or girls to get used to personally get up to urinate.
It is not helpful for parents to bring their children in their arms to the toilet because, in this way, they urinate in a semiconscious state and do not get into the habit of doing so voluntarily.
Exercises to control the urethral sphincter or strengthening of the urinary bladder
During the day a series of exercises can be practised, for learning to control the urethral sphincter or strengthening of the urinary bladder. We can mention the following:
- Retention technique: It consists in having the person going to the toliet as many times as possible, and at the same time, being capable of holding urine when they feel the need, as long as possible.
This can be practised by the child during the day. This requires increasing the intake of beverages or herbal teas provide to increase the volume of fluid in the bladder. (See "Remedies for enuresis plants" in the list above)
- Sphincter control technique: The technique works by stopping the urine stream without finishing to expel it completely, as often as possible. By this stopgo action we can make the sphincters get stronger.
Wetting or enuresis alarms
There are a series of alarms available in the market that detect moisture and start automatically.
This ensures that the child wakes up at the first signs of moisture so he or she can go to the bathroom before bed wetting. Thus, little by little, he or she creates habits that facilitate self control.
On many occasions it has been found tat the problem is solved after a couple of months of use.
