Perennial erect plant of the Willow herb family -onagraceae- up to 2 m. Lanceolate leaves, from 5 to 15 cm long, glaucous, alternate and spirally set around the stems, with very conspicuous network-like venation underneath. Purple flowers in long terminal racemes. 4 different petals, stigma 4 lobed and bent style before the stamens ripe. The fruit is a grey capsule. By the side of the woods, roads and rivers.
