Which is the biggest flower in the world?
WHICH IS THE BIGGEST FLOWER?
It is a plant that lives in the wild in the jungles of Sumatra. People has not been able to grow it anywhere in the world.
It belongs to a family of plants with little species. In Europe we only have two members: "Cytinus hypocistis" and " Cytinus ruber", which are parasite of other plants, specially of cistus.
It is pollinated by flies and mosquitoes, that are attracted by the dead flesh odor, coming out from its flowers.
It is a plant with a very simple structure: A huge purple-red flower, up to a meter in diameter, that grows lonely along the surface of the ground.
It was discovered by Dr. Arnold and Sir Stamford Raffles
