Characteristics of crab lice
Crab louse (Pthirus pubis = Pediculus pubis) is a type of louse that lives in pubic hair and other parts of the body, like armpits hair, eyelashes (especially in children), hair of the abdomen, beard, moustaches, (in men) etc.. Like all the human lice, it causes intense itching. They are commonly known as "crabs" because they are very similar to real crabs.
Crab infection (called phthiriasis or pediculosis pubis) is mainly produced by means of sexual relations, although it can be done by other contact means, such as clothes or toilet sharing.
Adults are more liable to suffer crab louse infections than children. In this case they usually appear on the eyelashes and can cause inflammation of the eyelash follicles (blepharitis),
