Aquilegia vulgaris L. – (Columbine)

Perennial plant of the buttercup family -ranunculaceae- up to 80 cm. Stems erect glabrous. Lower leaves composite, long- stalked bearing 9 stalked and toothed leaflets. Upper leaves unstalked. Flowers generally blue, seldom white or pink, 3 to 5 cm., with spurs hooked backwards, where nectaries are found. In woods, mountain grasslands and stony places.
