What are the contraindications rosemary?

Rosemary preparations should not be taken by people that present the following health problems:

Gastroenteritis and prostatitis. Rosemary contains tannins and camphor, both with irritating effects, so it is contraindicated in intestinal inflammatory conditions such as Crohn’s disease, prostatitis, or irritable colon.

Endometriosis: Because of the emmenagogue properties of rosemary, should not be used in case of endometriosis

Constipation. Rosemary contains tannins, which have astringent and can aggravate constipation.

Epilepsy and brain diseases. The essential oil is classified among convulsants, that is to say, with neurotoxic effect. Therefore, the essential oil is contraindicated in epilepsy, Alzheimer, Parkinson, senile dementia, among others.

Insomnia. Rosemary bath at night can disrupt sleep, since it has stimulant properties. Contraindicated in people with insomnia. Nor should infusions of rosemary be used.

People with hypersensitivity to essential oil. Externally, it causes skin flushing, that is to say, redness of the skin.

Can the essential oil of rosemary be ingested?

Ingestion of essential oil of rosemary is not recommended because it is irritating to the stomach, intestines and kidneys. It also produces seizures.

Can you take rosemary during pregnancy?

Pregnant women should not take rosemary preparations. Use of the plant in medicinal doses can be abortifacient.
