The Rockrose family - Cistaceae- comprises about 150 species of mainly Mediterranean plants. They are almost always bushes.

Cistus creticus Linne.

Leaves (1): simple, opposite, with or without stipules.

Stems (2): Ligneous. Very seldom herbaceous. (Tuberaria)

Flowers:

With radial symmetry. solitary or in little dense cymes.

Calyx (3): 3-5 free sepals.

Corolla (4): 5 petals which wither quickly.

Stamens: Many, free.

Ovary: superior with 3-5 carpels.

Style: 1

Fruit:

Capsule.
