HOW TO GROW GARDEN NASTURTIUM
Characteristics of the plant
|Perennial plant in the native place; cultivated as annual in less hot climates.
Crawling stems, climbing sometimes which spread around the center. Round leaves, highly divided, with a strong venation and with the petiolated in the center. Tubular flowers, open at the tip, trumpet- shaped. Five petals, ending in a long spur. Superior lip bilobed; inferior one, trilobed. The flowers present a wide range of colours, from bright red to cream or yellow.
It blooms from summer to the end of autumn.
|We must water it frequently, although it must never be soaked. Soil should always keep a certain degree of humidity.
|As a terrace plant or in verandas in sunny places. It can be used to make garden flower beds.
|Sun or demi-shade
|In spring from seeds, cuttings or by means of its tuberous roots.
|It prefers a well drained soil, although it must keeps some humidity. A garden peaty soil with sand will be a good one.
|Plant containing poisonous elements. Sometimes used as herbal medicine.
