List of foods according to their basifying effects

Due to little familiarity with this classification, some possible doubts are clarified with asterisks (*) below the table.

Basifying or alkalizing foods

  • Vegetables
  • Potatoes
  • Fruit
  • Edible seaweeds
  • Dried fruit: dried apricots, raisins,…
  • Nuts: almonds
  • Legumes and their products
  • (tempeh, tofu, soy drink)*
  •  Dairy: milk and yogurt
  • Umeboshi plum ***
  • Miso
  • Blancha tea
  • Honey*****
  • Mustard, ginger, cinnamon, spices in general.

*Some authors consider these foods (whole grains and legumes) neutral because they contain both acidifying and basifying minerals in balance.

***Umeboshi plum is considered a highly basifying food by Traditional Chinese Medicine and Macrobiotics.

***** Honey is richer in fructose and trace elements than refined sugar, so it is considered basifying.
