Arctostaphylos uva-ursi (L.) Sprengel – (Kinnikinnick)

Evergreen shrub of Heather family -ericaceae-, up to 2 m in length. Stems woody, brown, lying, with many sprouts that extend across the ground, the youngest ones erect. Oval leaves up to 2 cm, bright green above beam, darker green underside, coriaceous, wider towards the apex. Flowers to 6 mm hanging in clusters on reddish stems, pinkish-white in the form of “lantern”. Fruit in drupe, red when ripe, about 8 mm. In sparse forests and mountain heaths.
