Clematis flammula L.- (Traveller's joy)

Climbing herb of the Buttercup family -Ranunculaceae- up to 5 m. Grooved stems, leafless at the base. Coriaceous leaves, bipinnate with very changeable leaflets. White flowers, scented till 3 cm. in diameter with four lanceolate tepals, hairy below. Fruits in nucule, very flat ending in a feathery plume about 3 cm. long. In field edges and Mediterranean calcareous woods.
