Has arnica any contraindications?

Arnica is used on the skin, so that all the plant contraindications refer to external use.

Pregnant women, during lactation, infants and children. Arnica is a toxic plant including when used externally, so its use is not recommended in these cases. You must consult with a qualified physician.

Sensitive skin. Poultices of arnica can cause flushing (reddening of the skin) and skin irritation. Its use is not recommended in sensitive skin.

Open or bleeding wounds. Plasters or other skin preparations of arnica can not be used on open wounds or bleeding because they can cause poisoning.

Allergies. Do not use plasters or other preparations of arnica in people who are allergic to this plant or plants of the daisy family (Compositae).
