When is the consumption of eggs recommended?

As with all foods, the recommendations can always vary depending on each person, since we do not all have the same needs or requirements, and the same metabolism; absorption and digestion are not the same.

In general, we would recommend consuming eggs, especially in the following situations:

Eggs for people who need protein

Obviously, due to its contribution of proteins of high biological value, it will be recommended for people who wish to maintain muscle mass and/or have a muscle deficiency and need to increase it, such as in cases of malnutrition, anemia, muscle development in athletes, etc.

Also in cases where protein demand is higher, such as in trauma and stressful situations, wounds, burns.

Eggs to boost overall well-being

Eggs are rich in tryptophan, an amino acid necessary for the formation of serotonin, often called the “happiness hormone”. Low serotonin levels can cause anxiety, fear, lack of interest, or even more serious symptoms such as depression and seasonal affective disorder (SAD). Serotonin deficiencies have also been shown to worsen the symptoms of premenstrual syndrome (PMS).

Eating eggs in moderation can help us feel better because it helps increase serotonin levels.

Furthermore, eggs contain folic acid, cobalamin and pyridoxine, belonging to the vitamin B group. All of them are very suitable for the diet against depression. So eggs can be considered as a good natural antidepressant.

Eggs for skin, nail and hair care

Due to its richness in zinc, it is recommended in the acne diet, the wrinkle diet, the dandruff diet or for hair loss.

The consumption of this food can promote hair and nail growth and improve the appearance and health of the skin.

Egg for colds

Due to their richness in zinc, they are also recommended in the diet for colds or flu.

Egg for the prostate

Zinc inhibits the production of dihydrotestosterone, the high levels of which are associated with non-cancerous prostate enlargement. An increase in zinc in prostate cells appear to be effective in the prevention and treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).

Eggs for people with digestive problems

Due to its undoubted digestibility, it is highly tolerated by people sensitive to the digestion process. Eggs do not usually cause indigestion, especially compared to foods like meat and legumes that produce gas, which are sometimes bothersome. In contrast, fish does not cause digestive difficulties.

Egg for the elderly

For its contribution in calcium, proteins and vitamins. Due to its good digestibility and ease of ingestion, eggs are considered an ideal food in the diet of older people.

Egg for people who are very hungry

For people with a large appetite, it will help reduce their calorie intake because it produces a high degree of satiety. Moderate consumption of eggs is appropriate in cases of obesity and can help in weight loss diets.

Eggs for people with little appetite

For people with poor appetite, people with anorexia, children, or elderly people who have lost their desire to eat, the ingestion of eggs provides high-quality and easily assimilated protein.

Eggs for people who have bone problems or mineral deficiencies

In cases where the supply of minerals such as calcium is not possible. To increase calcium intake and avoid deficiencies, the eggshell can even be consumed as a substitute source of calcium, as long as it has been properly processed and never in a raw state because it would damage the intestinal mucosa, causing cuts and wounds.

The calcium in eggs is useful to avoid possible situations of lack of this mineral with consequent bone weakness and osteoporosis, or even rickets due to lack of calcium during pregnancy.

Thus, egg consumption is also recommended for pregnant women, and consequently, during breastfeeding and subsequent growth of the child, and even throughout their adulthood and old age, because they provide choline and lutein, substances that, respectively, help to promote the brain development of the fetus and its vision.

When is egg consumption not recommended?

There are other situations in which egg consumption should be limited or even avoided altogether, such as people with cholesterol or circulatory problems.
