DIET FOR GLAUCOMA

(Nutrition for glaucoma)

SUITABLE FOOD FOR GLAUCOMA

In the treatment of glaucoma it is recommended eating foods rich in the following components:

- Vitamin B1 or thiamine for glaucoma: There is evidence that glaucoma patients have low levels of thiamine. The intake of foods rich in thiamine may be beneficial for these patients. Plant foods rich in thiamine are: nuts (almonds, walnuts, hazelnuts, peanuts, etc.). Whole grain cereals and products (oats, rice, wheat, corn, barley, wheat germ, wholemeal bread, etc.). Dry beans, soybeans and other vegetables, such as oranges, potatoes, cabbage, asparagus, raisins, etc.

- Vitamin A for glaucoma: Vitamin A is needed for seeing well, especially to prevent night blindness which is the lack of vision in low light conditions. Deficiency of vitamin A may even cause this disease. Its antioxidant power is very interesting to keep your eyes in good condition, preventing diseases such as loss of vision, night blindness, glaucoma, cataracts,hypermetropia or myopia,. It also helps the eyes to overcome bacterial infections such as conjunctivitis. Vitamin A rich foods are spinach, carrots, watercress, borage, basil, squash, tomatoes, coriander, asparagus, dandelion, peppers, watermelons, melons, sprouts, bananas, apples, plums, oranges, mangoes, etc.

- Vitamin C for glaucoma: Its antioxidant properties help prevent the onset of eye diseases, especially those of degenerative nature, such as loss of vision, cataracts or glaucoma.

- Routine for glaucoma: Glaucoma patients are generally provided with routine supplements to improve their eye health. A diet rich in foods with routine could improve the status of persons with glaucoma. Rich- routine foods are citrus fruits (oranges, lemons, tangerines, etc.)

NON SUITABLE FOOD FOR GLAUCOMA

- proteins glaucoma?: People with glaucoma should not abuse the protein-rich foods in their diet, as these worsen the symptoms. Protein-rich foods are animal food, such as meat, eggs or fish.

- Stimulants for glaucoma?: Caffeine-rich foods such as coffee and cola. Foods rich in other stimulants such as cocoa or chocolate.
